Multi-purpose compost
This reduced peat formulation retains the characteristics of a peat-based compost and is ideal for many types of plants and containers. These including bedding, many houseplants, herbs and vegetables. Consider adding water-retaining granules and controlled-release fertiliser to hanging baskets. Add some coarse potting grit or a loam-based medium like John Innes No.3 in pots and other containers to give good drainage to avoid plants becoming waterlogged and their roots rotting. Available in both 60 litre and handy 25 litre bags that are easier to carry.
Peat-free multi-purpose compost
If you prefer a compost without peat, whether out of environmental concern or for its other characteristics, we have this option for you. It’s in 60 litre bags and contains a blend of the best available peat alternatives.
Ericaceous supreme compost
Some plants prefer or need an acidic soil or compost, like azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons, and heathers. This is your choice for those plants. As with any other compost, add some coarse potting grit or John Innes No.3 to pots and containers for good drainage. Available in both 60 litre and handy 25 litre bags that are easier to carry.
Universal supreme compost
A professional reduced-peat compost with sand, ideal for the production of seedlings and young plants, open tray sowing, and cuttings in large cells.
Growbags
We stock these in the spring as a handy way to plant directly into a bag of general purpose compost of an ideal size for growing soft fruit, vegetables, and herbs in a greenhouse or other sunny sheltered spot. Pierce the bag for drainage and cut holes for the plants you’re growing.
Organic soil improver
Packaged in 40 litre bags, this naturally peat free and organic product is made to the highest standards from composted plant material. It improves soils by adding humus and enriching with minerals. It will improve moisture retention in light soils as well as improving structure and drainage in heavier soils. We mix it with grass seed when repairing damaged lawns to help germination.
John Innes No.3
A high quality John Innes formulation from one of the country’s leading soil sterilisers, this product has always been a reduced peat compost ideal for a wide range of longer term uses. The traditional way to better plants. Use it for potting or repotting hungrier or larger plants or to improve the drainage and weight of multi-purpose compost. Available in 25 litre bags.
Coarse potting grit
A cost-effective way to add much-needed drainage to composts in pots and other containers, we stock 25 litre bags of coarse potting grit. Don’t for get to add crocks (usually large pieces of broken pots) to the bottom of your pots before adding your compost mix.
Ornamental bark chippings
A chunky natural material used to mulch around trees and shrubs to help suppress weeds and retain moisture.
Fine composted bark
A finer natural material typically used to mulch around shrubs and other plants in borders, beds, and containers to help suppress weeds and retain moisture.
We do not stock topsoil
For most purposes there is a better product than topsoil for your needs. Please email us at [email protected] and ask us what we would recommend. If you really would be better off using topsoil, we will tell you.
